Prepositions of place tell us where things are located. They are small but very important words in English. These words help you describe the position of people, animals, and objects. For example, they tell you if something is in a box, on a table, or under a chair. Learning these words helps you describe your home, your classroom, or find objects easily. We use prepositions like in, on, under, next to, behind, e in front of to show exact positions. They make your sentences clear and easy to understand for others. Mastering these basic prepositions is a key step for all English learners, especially at the Pre-A1 level, to communicate clearly about locations and ask “Where is it?” with confidence.

Common mistakes for Spanish speakers

Spanish speakers often use “en” for both in e on. Remember they are different!

  • Incorrect: The book is in the table. (This means inside the table.)
  • Correct: The book is on the table. (This means on the surface of the table.)

Also, remember that in front of is three separate words, not one.

  • Incorrect: The car is infrontof the house.
  • Correct: The car is in front of the house.
