Adverbs of frequency are words that tell us how many times an action happens. They answer the question How often?
Here are some common adverbs of frequency, from 100% (all the time) to 0% (never):
- Always (当時は100%)
- Usually (80-90% of the time)

- Sometimes (20-40% of the time)
- Hardly ever (5-10% of the time)

Where Do Adverbs of Frequency Go?
The position of an adverb of frequency is important. There are two main rules for A1 English.
Rule 1: Before the main verb.
Most of the time, the adverb goes before the verb that describes the action.
- I usually wake up early.
- They often play football.
Rule 2: After the verb to be.
If the verb in your sentence is am, is, 、または are, the adverb goes after it.
- He is often late.
- We are always happy.
How Do We Ask About Frequency?
To ask about how often someone does something, we use the question How often...?
- How often do you exercise?
- How often does she visit her family?
You can answer with an adverb of frequency:
- I often exercise.
- She sometimes visits her family.
